meals celebrate memories and forge communities

Lion & Owl is a culmination of our journeys as individuals and of our journeys together through food, wine, life, and love.

About the Owl

Chef Crystal Platt came to cooking by being a terrible waitress: her first job landed her in the kitchen when she was less than stellar in the dining room. While in culinary school at Lane Community College, she worked through all the stations at local favorite, Marche Restaurant, finishing her 10 year career there as the chef de cuisine. She draws on her childhood memories for inspiration to create the unique, yet somehow familiar, flavors in her dishes. Her scrumptious bites and drive for excellence earned her a nod as a semifinalist for a James Beard award in 2023.

About the Lion

Getting baptized in Clairette de Die as a teen started Kirsten Hansen’s lifelong love of wine. Working in restaurants across the nation with fantastic, renowned wine programs, such as Greens and Slanted Door in SF, cemented her appreciation for a great pairing. She pursued her WSET Diploma as a deeper dive into the world of grapes, and continues to sip and savor as much as possible to continue her education. She brings her wine expertise and genuine hospitality to the Lion and Owl table as a perfect pairing to Crystal’s cuisine.
